ABOUT OUR CEREMONY
For our wedding Julie and I chose to do something a little different. After investigating all of our options we decided to forgo a large, traditional ceremony and opt for a more intimate and unique wedding.
One night, while discussing the possibilities for our wedding, one of us suggested getting married in the Caribbean. From there, the idea evolved into us going on a cruise and, while in port, getting married on one of the islands. Julie and I both thought that this would be a fun and exciting way to start our new life together.
When we pitched the idea of the cruise to our families and friends we were a bit apprehensive. Both Julie and I thought that our parents, especially our mothers, would be disappointed at the prospect of not having their children get married in a big church wedding. To our surprise, they were just as excited as we were. After telling our parents, informing everyone else was easy. Currently, over thirty people plan to attend our wedding.
For our ceremony, Julie and I decided to get married on the island of Jamaica when we dock in Ocho Rios. The island of Jamaica seems like the idyllic setting for a destination wedding.
My brother-in-law, Arthur Valente, is acting as my best man and my nephew Michael, Arthur's and my sister's son, is my groomsman. I've known Arthur for over twenty years and not only is he a part of my family, he's also one of my closest friends. I'm honored to have him as my best man.
Julie's aunt, Nancy Fydrych, is her matron-of-honor and Nancy's daughter, Kathryn, is her bridesmaid. Both of them will make beautiful bridesmaids on our wedding day.
Rounding out our bridal party are Julie's flower girls, Alexis Valente and Heather Fydrych. They're both very sweet, pretty girls and we look forward to having them in our party.
Julie will be given away by her mother and stepfather, Ida and Jerry Niwinski.
To plan all this we are working with A Wedding For You, a group that specializes in destination weddings.
Unfortunately, because we live so far from Jamaica, many of the details are still being worked out. In fact, some of the information won’t be fully available to us until just a few weeks before the wedding. As we get more details we’ll share them with you right here!
CEREMONY INFORMATION
Date: January 21 Time: Late Morning Location: Enchanted Garden Resort, Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Transportation: Transportation is being provided to all our guests from the Century to our ceremony site. After the ceremony and the champagne and cake reception transportation back to the ship is also provided. Weather: Jamaican weather in January can range from comfortable to warm and humid. The table below shows the weather statistics for the month of January.
Attire: Formal for the ceremony, receptions and dinner. Since the weather in Jamaica averages between 74 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit in January, we recommend that men wear either a summer-weight suit or a light sport coat and dress pants. Reception: In addition to the reception on the island, we will also have a cocktail reception in the evening after returning to the ship (exact time to be determined). Excursions: After the ceremony and reception there should be enough time for guests to return to the ship and change clothes and then participate in an excursion. Our wedding planner recommends the excursion to Dunn's River Falls. Due to time restraints please do not book the excursion through Celebrity or the Century's staff. It is recommended that you contact A Wedding For You and ask Karen Emery to arrange the excursion for you.
